One time I hired someone who had sued their previous two employers. They nailed the interview and had a perfectly reasonable explanation for the legal conflict. I’ll give you one guess at how things ended. Where there’s smoke there’s always fire. Always, always, always.

I’m trying to make a $15,000 purchase from a local small business. All I need is a contract from the manager. I’ve stopped by twice, called twice, and emailed twice. No response. The bar is incredibly low out there folks.

PS: This is why people who’ve had success often have trouble repeating it. They don’t have the same level of hunger and often aren’t willing to accept the risk that comes with being all-in again. It’s something I struggle with personally.

Good afternoon from the Flatirons. Climbing looks slow from the outside but on the inside it’s fast—a constant stream of decisions. Your whole world is the small panel of rock right in front of you. And that’s one reason I love it. 📸: God’s Kingdom on Earth, 5.12b

In my 32 years in business, I’ve watched dozens of people get rich. I can’t think of a single case where it made someone a better person. But I can think of many where it sent them off the rails. The reason is simple: Money can only solve money problems. And it turns out that

It’s awesome to succeed quickly. It’s great to succeed slowly. It’s ok to fail quickly. But don’t fail slowly. (via Brent Franson)

I’m gonna brag a little (and maybe there’s a lesson here for young parents). My wife and I are the least performance-oriented parents you’ll ever meet. We’ve never once verbalized expectations for grades. I’ve never looked at a report card. We don’t help them study or write

A few times in life, you’ll come to a fork in the road and have to make the most difficult type of decision. One where the stakes are high and each path leads to a dramatically different place… but it’s not clear which way you should turn. The pros and cons of each option feel

Michael Girdley 🎯 There’s a big market for validation, not so much for truth. I used to get into twitter debates with personal finance influencers and then I realized they aren’t actually trying to give good advice.

X—more than any other social platform—bares our souls. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but pictures are often a facade. Words have a way of revealing our true nature. I’ve met over 100 people from this app in real life—and in every case, they were exactly who I
