The issue with "lesser of two evils" politics is if you run a race of 99% Hitler vs 100% Hitler, 100% Hitler wins every time because the people who want a Hitler vote for 100% Hitler and the people who don't want a Hitler might not vote for either of them

I see more people shocked by this than I expected. When you ratchet the Overton Window as hard to the right as you can why would you be surprised when you lose progressive votes? You were never safe no matter who won.

Third party voting went from about 1% of the vote to 0.5% of the vote. Third party voters literally did what you asked, it wasn't them. Not a single state was close enough for 3rd party voters to make a difference.
