Our work with the fantastic Karol Buda is out in Nature Communications! We analyzed 41 fitness landscapes from adaptive Ez trajectories & report idiosyncrasy in 94% of mutational & epistatic effects! This high frequency may reflect the rewiring of intramolecular networks by evolution!

New paper from the lab! We developed a super cheap protocol for bacterial RNAseq (~$25/txome) and screened drugs w/ gut microbes to generate 1000’s of txomes, the largest of its kind. Lots of cool insights and data for further follow up. Congrats to Deirdre, Yiming Huang

Just shared at Keystone Symposia a new @ArcInstitute discovery of the bridge RNA recombinase mechanism: a new class of natural RNA-guided systems that retains the key property of programmability from RNAi and CRISPR while enabling large-scale genome design beyond RNA and DNA cuts

Big congrats! This opens up a lot of new doors. We worked on a very similar approach with PRD1 and couldn't get it to work. Looking forward to reading this in detail. Now just fuse the GOI to the TP and display it covalently.

Introducing Genie 2, our latest protein design model! Genie 2 sets a new state of the art on key design metrics and supports motif scaffolding, including that of multiple motifs with undefined geometric relationships, a feature new to protein diffusion models. (1/5)

Do you really need to spread plasmid libraries on mountains of plates to get uniform growth, or can you just dump them in a flask and call it a day? We make huge plasmid libraries in the de Boer Lab, so we tested whether culture method really matters. 1/ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Meet MagLOV: an engineered protein that responds STRONGLY to magnetic fields. This is a fluorescence timelapse of MagLOV in E. coli. We're waving a (small) magnet under the plate. Can you tell where the magnet is? Want some? It's on Addgene now! addgene.org/219957/

Our preprint on engineered bacterial microlenses is out! We engineered bacteria to display sea sponge enzymes on their outer membranes. These bacteria can self-assemble a bioglass coating around themselves, and focus light into bright, photonic nanojets. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

1/ 🧬 Excited to share CHEAP, our new work on compressed protein embeddings. We characterize the joint distribution of p(sequence, structure) in ESMFold's latent space, and find cool tidbits on compressibility, tokenizability, and pathologies: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵
