The most important lesson I've learned in the last year: Burnout isn't just the result of too much work. It's the TYPE of work. And, more specifically, your emotional connection to it. Burnout comes from feeling like no matter how much you do, it will never be enough.

Unmasking is a white autistic’s game. A different level of cultural safety needs to be present before I could ever endorse that for Black autistics - for those able to opt in to unmasking.

We started out spitballing ideas for a 'little' showcase of LGBTQIA+ research. Our little showcase turned into a two-day conference, with speakers from five continents, and twelve panels spanning a wide variety of disciplines! Tickets still available (and FREE!!)

With hyperempathy you have to consider, not only 'will I be triggered by this?' but also, 'will other people be triggered by this, and will I be forced to sit in a room of triggered people absorbing all their feelings?' #actuallyautistic

This reminds me of a statistic highlighted by Marianthi Kourti at #Autscape2022 yesterday that Black children are 2x as likely to be diagnosed as autistic. This doesn't mean they aren't autistic but shows how Blackness is pathologised by professionals

I had some students from technical disciplines in my office hours. They were struggling to get through all the readings on the syllabus. I get it. This is a graduate IR seminar averaging 300pp a week. Here is what I told them: 🧵

Something that I dont think is talked about enough with the autistic experience is just how long trauma can last. Autistic minds have a tendency to replay events over & over the way NT minds dont. It can keep us looped in the moment of trauma indefinitely.

#Oliverscampaign Discrimination against Learning Disabled people from the caring profession is real. Often this discrimination is subconscious, we must self reflect & heal ourselves if we are to change culture. Thoughts??
