Brown dwarf W1935 posed a mystery. Webb found that methane in this object’s atmosphere was emitting infrared light, despite no obvious energy source. Using clues from our solar system, scientists found a possible explanation in aurorae: go.nasa.gov/3HddFPe #AAS243

Let me introduce you to two new candidate exoplanets found with JWST's MIRI: WD 1202-232 b and WD 2105-82 b. arxiv.org/abs/2401.13153 These candidates are cool, billion year old Jupiter-like exoplanets that are likely polluting the atmospheres of their white dwarf host stars.

The European Consortium ESA Webb Telescope/NASA Webb Telescope MIRI GTO team is very happy today to present the discovery of Cerberus, an extremely red object missed by the deepest NIRCam surveys and revealed in our deep MIRI F1000W data of the HUDF. The paper is now on astro-ph. Comments welcome!

Happy to share the final report from the Working Group on Strategic Exoplanet Initiatives with HST and JWST! we spent the last year synthesizing community feedback to determine the best way to make use of these facilities for exoplanet science. arxiv.org/abs/2404.02932

Quite the light show in Ann Arbor, Michigan! 🤩 First reaction from a group of astronomers: "OMG, I can see the Earth's magnetic field lines!"
