This week our students took a moment to reflect on what peace means to them, and it was pretty powerful. #rtla38

Last week our students truly felt the light by embracing the joy of Hanukkah 🕎 Using our library Hanukkah kits, they played dreidel, made Hanukkah cards and learned the history of the holiday. These kids have some serious spinning skills! #rtla38

This past week was powerful, as Byng students took a moment to think beyond themselves this holiday season. Thanks to #sd38drc, they were each able to give someone close to them a button of appreciation, giving them an opportunity that they may not have had otherwise. #rtla38

Tomorrow - and beyond! - our students will have this selection of books to chew on. Highlighted to honour and uplift diverse voices, share the stories of racialized groups, and celebrate Black contributions + achievements. There’s no better time than the present. #rtla38

Wishing good health, prosperity and happiness to those celebrating the Lunar New Year! After reading Dane Liu Friends are Friends, Forever, students created their own ornaments. Each one unique and beautiful in their own way. #rtla38

Byng students blew me away when sharing what kindness means to them. From “Holding up an umbrella for someone when it’s raining” to “Kindness is a hug”, the students dove deeper into the little acts that go a long way. I think we could all use a hug right about now 🤗 #rtla38

After the longest Reader’s Choice drought there ever was, this week was a little too exciting in Byng’s literary hub! The excitement was palpable with the intermediate book deliveries this afternoon, and the primaries are getting the hang of helping me read the titles! 📚#rtla38

Thanks to Jonathan, our 3D printer is back in action! Our school-wide project, creating objects for our school’s loose parts cart, will focus on 2 skills - grouping + creating holes on Tinkercad. The engagement and excitement throughout the design process was palpable. #rtla38

Today was a reminder of why I do the job I do. Midway through reading Lina Alhathloul لينا الهذلول + Uma Mishra #BlackLivesMatter #FreePalestine’s book inspired by the incredible لجين هذلول الهذلول, a student says, “I don’t think it’s a law broken, it’s a risk taken.” The kids know where it’s at.
