The final 2025 The R&A Championship Agronomy Programme placement concluded last week at the AIG Women’s Open. We caught up with the delegates during their course walk with the Agronomy team joined by John Kemp the Assistant Director of Sustainable Golf Development at The R&A.

Now the dust has settled I look back on such a fantastic week at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club supporting Ian Kinley for the AIG Women’s Open⛳️ Lots learned, network expanded and memories made, won’t miss the 3.30 alarms though! The heather is now in bloom, adding another layer of colour to our beautiful course. It would be remiss to not extend a huge thanks to our team for their work restoring the heathland over the past few years — the course wouldn’t look like this without your dedication.

A big thanks to Golf Club Atlas for including us in their 147 (+6) Custodians list, celebrating engaging courses with strong architectural merit that leave you itching to head straight back to the 1st tee. Thank you to our team, and to Herbert Fowler, for making it possible.

Just below the clubhouse sits one of Herbert Fowler’s finest creations — the 18th green. The large surface is split into three distinct sections: a front bowl behind a raised edge, a middle-left guarded by bunkers, and a back-right tier where most approaches come up short.

The course is looking superb — the heather’s in full bloom, and the greens are back to their best after a tough spring and recent maintenance. Book your tee time now to see the course at its best: bit.ly/41jHEiX

Herbert Fowler set the tone straight away at the 1st when he designed the course in 1911. Semi-blind from the fairway, the green is long, narrow, and guarded by two bunkers — with spines running through it that define one of the course’s most distinctive surfaces.
