We anticipate sustained tropical storm winds ranging from 40 - 50MPH with gusts peaking at around 60MPH. Due to deteriorating weather conditions, City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, though essential services will be maintained.

Southeast Georgia is still under a Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warning. We are seeing a decrease in the rain forecast, now expecting around 2 to 4 inches. We can still expect moderate tropical storm force winds. We still expect to see more elevated high tides.

The Red Cross has opened a shelter in Brunswick, located at 2900 Albany Street or the Old Risley Annex. Red Cross will be staffing this shelter during the storm as needed. Staff arrived Wednesday evening to set up and evaluate needs and resources.

Officials ask for citizens to seek this shelter if they are in need of safer shelter or have a compromised living situation during the storm. It will be a first come first serve basis and will not be available following the storms departure from our area.

Regarding road closures, no road closings will occur unless warranted by flooding conditions. Public Works is currently out of sandbags, but city residents can still Bring Your Own Bags for sand.

Weather Update: Wave action will increase during high tide around midnight lasting until 2:00AM. We expect to see a few large wind gusts peaking at around 50MPH, but don’t anticipate any sustained hurricane conditions. The rainfall estimate is still sitting at around 2 - 4 inches

Road Closures: Lanier Blvd has been closed until further notice due to water over the road. Flooding was reported on Parkwood, Torras causeway intersection and Riverside this afternoon, but has been cleared based on latest status.

The Saint Simons Island causeway is open both ways now. Glynn Avenue and 17 in Brunswick still has some blockages but should be open soon.

Most but not all lanes of Glynn Avenue/Hwy 17 are open north and south. There is still some debris pick up going on but traffic is moving.  The Saint Simons Island causeway is open both ways.
