Brutal DQ for Alex Walsh in the 200 IM. I don’t understand why that rule exists, but she definitely turned past vertical and broke the rule as written. We didn’t do the crossover turn when I was swimming, but I do it now and I 1000 percent would DQ if I ever did it in a meet.

Took like 4 replies for some idiot to blame vaccines. Not surprised. However, I am surprised that they do an open water swim at a CrossFit event. Open water swimming is scary and dangerous, even for experienced swimmers. Even so, you shouldn’t lose a swimmer in an 800m swim.

My favorite part about Black Hat is coming home, popping on Twitter, and getting to the bottom of the numerous absurd controversies arising at DEFCON.

Excellent, science-based analysis from Steve Novella as usual. Of course, this will change exactly no one's mind (as is clear in the comments).

The chain of custody on this mystery meat from Next Door is a little suspect. Even so... it's not every day someone pops up on the internet and offers you free, three year old meat originating from an animal that lived on a different continent.

Before you judge Jesse Pegula (or Emma Navarro) for being the privileged daughters of billionaires, just imagine for one insignificant second how much of a dipshit you'd be if your parents were billionaires.

We analyzed Red Canary, a Zscaler company detection data from the first half of 2024 to produce a Threat Detection Report midyear update focusing on a trend (identities) and a few emergent threats and techniques. Useful insight for everyone from the SOC to the CISO's office: redcanary.com/threat-detecti…

Just got a notification from a company I've never heard of (or interacted with) informing me that they suffered a breach of medical records, billing information, and social security numbers. They offered me credit monitoring services as a consolation prize. Literal weasels.

Reddit has officially become the least insane of all these social media websites. Just think critically about that for a second. Bad job, everyone.

Maturing is realizing that China was right to heavily censor their internet. Turns out it's full of information that's dangerous to people who read and write at an 8th grade level and don't understand fractions.

It's such an obvious conflict of interest that Amazon can own the paper that's supposed to cover the defense industry and intelligence agencies while also being paid literal billions of dollars by them for a secure cloud hosting contract.

Absolutely killer research by Matt Graeber on the Red Canary, a Zscaler company blog this week about compromising (and defending) Azure OpenAI resources. redcanary.com/blog/threat-de…

Terrible choice by the greedy lizard-boys who run Google. We all agree it's a horrible idea to build an all-encompassing ad-tech dragnet so Amazon can sell us schlock, but tremendous amounts of malware are delivered by malvertising that's prevented by ad blockers.
