Big #labor moves happening in the U.S. south. Interesting stat about #union support being at near record highs. "#UAW presses deeper into the South with victory at #Volkswagen" axios.com/2024/04/20/uaw…

BREAKING: The FTC just banned non-compete agreements. The Federal Trade Commission has issued a final rule making it illegal for bosses to make workers sign noncompetes in any scenario, and voiding nearly all existing noncompetes. This is a game changer for American workers.

A federal labour arbitrator has given Air Canada the green light to test a strand of a flight attendant's hair for drugs after two of the man's housemates — and fellow employees — claimed he was smoking a bong and making jokes about hijacking. cbc.ca/news/canada/br… .

We passed a ban on replacement workers last night. This is one of the most seminal moments in Canadian labour history. I want to thank all the labour leaders, activists and workers who have worked so hard over decades to finally make this happen.

“A strike right before the long weekend gives the union no power” claim would appear to be a misreading of the situation. Also: Forced arbitration is not a substitute for the right to strike in Canada: Supreme Court of Canada.

Well, the Liberals now have a shiny new toy to put an end to any Air Canada work stoppage immediately if they so desire. The CIRB has decided it's entirely neutered by s. 107 of the CLC and a Minister of Labour is like a King who can end any strike by sending an email.

CLC's statement on use of section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to end lockout and impose binding arbitration: canadianlabour.ca/canadas-unions…. Key question is whether s. 107 is about to get wider use to end industrial action. #bclab #labour #canlab

Recent BC LRB decision on the #Starbucks Dunbar closure. Held closure was legitimate though intimidation/coercion of employee union supporter. Interesting as this example came up in my recent labour law lecture. Very comprehensive reasons. #bclab #labour lrb.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/#f400000…

Spotted out and about today. Here's the IP question: any potential confusion between the "canuck" marks? Likelihood of successful infringement claim if the Vancouver Canucks mark is registered? #iplaw #trademark #canuck
