Symbolic action or not, this is a huge legitimizer for the UAW. It's also a political move to shore up support among the working class and keep them away from the populist pull of Trump. After a strike-filled summer in an election year, Biden needs to be a friend of labor.

Will be interested to see what is said at tonight's #GOPDebate about ongoing strikes. The partisan rules of the game say the candidates will need to attack Biden on labor, but is it a smart political move to be anti-union with the strikes enjoying such broad public support?

Though her presidential campaign may not be making many headlines lately, this move is helping the strikes remain relevant. Combined with Trump hosting a competing rally to the #GOPDebate in front of auto workers, it is obvious politicians are taking note of the unrest.

The strikes only seem to be growing in intensity and relevance as time goes on. Additional walkouts occurred as of noon today. news8000.com/news/national-…

"This isn't just an attack on the UAW. It's an attack on every worker who chooses to stand up." It is confusing to me that non-union workers would take their frustrations out on their fellow workers and not the massive companies continually exploiting their labor force.

Solidarity between industries and organizations is how real progress is made for workers' rights. After the deal the writers got, I'm excited to see how the actors' strike moves forward.

Once again, solidarity from unions across industries is how true class consciousness is developed! The labor force of all companies is united under the label of workers. Working with each other, we can create better conditions for everyone.

"The union’s stated bargaining goals at Mack mirrored many of its demands in the talks with the Big Three automakers, including improved wages and health care and pension benefits." cnn.com/2023/10/02/bus…

Always cool to see local political leaders give legitimacy to strikes. If the established political order does not support the auto companies, it will be harder for them to strongarm the unions into submission.

Though it hasn't reached too many national headlines, there have been intermittent strikes by hotel workers in the LA area for the last three months. Workers are seeking an increased hourly rate and improved healthcare. latimes.com/business/story…

Main point from this article: The power dynamic between labor and executives appears to be shifting. With public support firmly with the unions for the time being, longer strikes appear to put additional pressure on owners to make deals. nytimes.com/2023/10/08/bus…

With an increasingly exclusive economy and executive pay raises not being reflected on the workers' salaries, a working-class job no longer translates to a middle-class life. thehill.com/opinion/civil-…

After a 72-hour strike (the longest ever in the healthcare sector), Kaiser Permanente's worker unions have reached a deal with the company. The details of the deal have not yet been released. theguardian.com/us-news/2023/o…

Waking up to the news that yet another strike has ended with workers receiving concessions from companies feels pretty good. Are the tides turning in favor of union activity? Or are we all just paying more attention to striking workers? Either way, cheers to Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions

As a labor leader, I am appalled that our government has labeled calls for de-escalation, ceasefire, and peace in Palestine “repugnant”. Washington hawks worship their war machine and will do anything to justify mass death and an apartheid system that destroys human dignity.
