Today, I reflect on the legacy of #Olympian George Coleman Poage, the first African-American to earn a medal at the The Olympic Games. Poage won two bronze medals at the 1904 Games in both the 200-yard and 400-yard hurdles in St. Louis.
Very impactful panel discussion at the Wright State University Know Your Rights event this afternoon. A truly dynamic dialogue with community at the center. Shout out to the Dayton HRC and Wright State Raiders Chief Kurt Holden for organizing this event.
Today, I pay homage to Claressa Gwoat Shields, the only boxer in history, female or male, to hold all four major world titles in boxing—WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO—simultaneously, in two weight classes. In 2018, Shields was inducted into the USA Boxing Alumni Association's Hall of Fame.
Today, I reflect on the legacy of Fanny Jackson Coppin, the first African American woman to serve as a school principal and a superintendent. She was also the first African American teacher at Oberlin College, opening an evening school for newly freed slaves.
First week of the semester ✅ & I’m filled with gratitude as I begin my seventh year teaching at the Dayton School of Law. Teaching & learning alongside the next generation of lawyers is a privilege & reminder of why this work matters to our students, community, & justice system for all.
