To be honest, type design is an expensive design practice, and typically, only large corporations can afford custom typography. I would advise small businesses against investing in custom fonts, as such can cost thousands of dollars. Instead, consider using open-source fonts.

I'm of the opinion that if you are self taught in a craft, you should spend your first 10,000 hours chasing credibility instead of clout 'cause of the huge stack of unknown-unknowns in your arsenal. Doesn't apply to people who use income as the sole measure of career success.
