Dear #eddev / #facdev that provide midterm student feedback sessions as a service, Do you have a full class debrief after the small group component? What do you see as the function or purpose of that full class stage? #HigherEducation POD Network
I've recognized for a while that I point instructors to How Learning Works (Marsha Lovett et al) more than any other book. FWIW, Interactive Lecturing by Claire Howell Major & Barkley is a close second. It's usefulness extends beyond the titular subject. #highered #facdev #pedagogy
Inspired by DR. VIJI SATHY & @DrMrsKellyHogan's workshop for CRLT@umich & SEISMIC, I used #PollEverywhere at an event today for quiet folks to share questions/thoughts. It went great. A bonus: folks who finished solo activities early could add & engage with the question.
I learned about the Marshmallow test in undergrad & casually referenced it in my adult life, saying things like, "I wish I were a two marshmallow kid." I had never thought about how a child with food insecurity might actually be facing a different choice. theatlantic.com/family/archive…
Interviews have commenced on our research project investigating the role and future of workshops in CTLs' vision and goals! Excited to have the POD Network Early Researcher Grant to support the work!
Because it feels good to share professional successes... last month, the Journal on Centers for Teaching & Learning published our article on the value of diverse types of teaching programming for faculty. Delighted to keep working with folks at WFU Center for the Advancement of Teaching! openjournal.lib.miamioh.edu/index.php/jctl…
Just a reminder of this "classic" from the Grading for Growth folks. I share it when an alternative grading approach seems like quite a jump. It shares the 4 pillars to alt. grading & suggests that there are both big and small ways to work towards them. gradingforgrowth.com/p/finding-comm…
