in light of the #KyleRittennhouse verdict i want to remind y’all that #BrandonBernard was 18 years old when a group of people who he was WITH shot someone, leading to his arrest. despite having killed no one, Brandon was sentenced to the death penalty and executed last year.

Whew. As educators, and human beings, we are dismayed by today's verdict. But not surprised, not unbothered and not unmoved. For too long, our justice system has been unbalanced, inequitable and inadequate when it comes to keeping *some* of us safe.

This whole damn system is guilty as hell.
