The Guardian has issued a timely warning on the importance of rebutting the widespread myths about immigration. Nearly half the public wrongly believe that illegal migrants outnumber those here legally. 72% of those who favour mass deportations hold this false belief, whereas

Anxiety about being separated from loved ones

We were one fewer tonight at our little Night Prayer gathering. She left us this afternoon in the hope of crossing the channel tonight. Three left us today and one will probably leave us tomorrow. It feels impossible to imagine what the journey - if successful - will be like.

One of many remarkable & unreported aspects of life in Calais is the large number of young people who come to volunteer. They are frequently very well qualified & talented young people who could be furthering their own careers in their own country but chose otherwise.

Excellent briefing in Calais this morning on the UK “one in one out” scheme by Refugee Legal Support (RLS)🧡 . More evidence of the high quality commitment of many to those seeking asylum.

Part of a wonderful piece of art made by asylum seekers and their friends at our house yesterday with kind encouragement Art Refuge 🧡 Yet another example of deeply gifted people offering kindness and encouragement in Calais.

Our house in Calais is under the patronage of Maria Skobstova, St Mary of Paris, who housed refugees in Paris during the Nazi occupation and was murdered by the Nazis on Holy Saturday 1945. We rely on her prayers. Maria Skobstova pray for us all who pass through your house

We were blessed today to receive this for the chapel in our house; a kind gift from a brother of ⁦Taizé⁩ who was visiting us I have called you friends because I have revealed to you everything that I have heard from my father

I suppose that this is what "privilege" means; being able to walk to the ticket office and check in to cross the Channel in what one of the children I have spent the past weeks calls "a big boat". It definitely feels strange and uncomfortable

“To speak as though [asylum seekers in hotels] are anything other than ordinary is to reinforce the violence they have already experienced, the refusal to see them humanly.” #RowanWilliams on taking the humane view. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

A 2014 story. The issue is not being "too white" - but need to extend pupils’ understanding of the cultural diversity of modern British society . The school now does this by developing curriculum, & trips to outside locations & visitors to the school. Clearly good leadership.

Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker,    but those who are kind to the needy honour him. #MorningPrayer This is from The Bible and is part our national heritage. So I suppose I want my country back.

A police statement suggests that this is a less than accurate report. Just because we read something does not mean it is true.

This lovely book Horatio Clare has been a lovely companion over the summer. He sets out to show our welcome of asylum seekers shows us at our very best. Amongst many things he tells of people going to work in Dover simply to ensure that they get the very best welcome.

My favourite hardware shop, on Bishopthorpe Road, York. If I’m feeling low, I’ll often walk a couple of miles out of my way just to read his joke - a different one every day. I hope he knows he’s making a huge contribution.

Last week, we took our 6-year-old son, River, to the Clarks Village outlet store in Street to get him fitted for school shoes. Since River is autistic, he finds it really tough to handle crowds, long lines, and noisy places. The store was packed! I knew he wouldn’t manage well
