After waiting most of the day for the fog to lift, it was great to see my first white-fronted goose of the year lurking with Canadas on Grindon Lough this afternoon. Also 2 male Goldeneye and a peregrine.

Made the most of the snow and sunshine with a walk from Haydon Bridge to Haltwhistle via Hadrians wall. Not too many birds but a fly over Snow Bunting was a surprise, good numbers of fieldfare, a few Golden Plover and a lone Snipe.

If anyone is passing Haydon Bridge tomorrow, there's been a reasonable report of a Guillemot on the river downstream of the road bridge in the village. The bird was seen from the bridge without optics unfortunately.

Great to be back at Bempton, a few singing Chiffchaffs and 6 Siskin were about the best of the morning until checking the fences around the old pigfarm buildings. This smart male Black Redstart was happily feeding and looking very at home in a spot i always felt should host one

An afternoon wander along the river in Haydon Bridge took a slightly surreal turn as a flock of c50 kittiwake flew fairly low in a tight flock following the river roughly east.
