A common rhetorical device of those with a weak position is to try and make the other side look extreme. Respectfully Sen. Creighton, schools are asking for $14 billion to make up for inflation. That’s less than half the surplus. No one is suggesting schools receive $300 billion.

We now have dueling #txed bills! Senate passed HB100/finance bill with a voucher. House passed SB9/teacher bill with a $1000/student increase. Both bills are now eligible for conference committee discussion. The ⌚️ is ticking. Will they prioritize kids or voucher vendors? #txlege

HB 100 was my signature piece of legislation for the 88th Regular Legislative Session. I'm very sad to say that it ultimately did not pass! Below is my statement.

It is beyond comprehension the state of TX has a record surplus and yet, we will start the 23-24 school year with no adjustment to our basic allotment. We've been through a pandemic , inflation and a staff shortage and yet, asked to do more with less.
