Some might say that it's patronising to go easy on a team who evidently do not belong on the same pitch as you, but rather that the classless performance that Bayern are putting in at the moment.

Why would anyone think that a club that finished just outside of the relegation places last time now, with the same squad currently, suddenly has top-four potential?

May: Nicolas Jackson "I am Chelsea's starting centre forward" June: Liam Delap "No, I am Chelsea's starting centre forward" July: Joao Pedro: "No, I am Chelsea's starting centre forward" August............

It might not be the fantasist choice and it might reflect my natural Scottish dourness, but I think, on balance, that Federico Valverde is my favourite player in the current world game. No other player does so many different things so well.

Inter, Milan and Juventus have happily traded players since the earliest days of Italian football, so if it’s good enough for them then it’s good enough for some random London clubs.

When they know Chelsea are really eager sellers why do other clubs overpay for their players? Madueke cost a steep £28.5m and has had an up and down time at Stamford Bridge - why would Arsenal pay a premium for him (as they did Havertz) ?

Two goals for PSG in 8 minutes and another two great saves by Courtois. I said after the CL Final that it was less that Inter were terrible, more that the French have simply developed an extraordinary team.

I'm going to keep repeating this and am conscious they are still early in their cycle, but I think this PSG team is the best Europe has produced since Barcelona 09-11. They might even be better and they definitely are more athletic and more exciting to watch.

Absolute nonsense. The sheer athleticism and pace of this PSG side is light years ahead of Barcelona 2011 - and pretty much all teams. Plus the defensive recovery ability is extraordinary.

Hi Tim Spiers Good article on transfers though I'd take issue with the tenuous assertion that Gascoigne would have been 'saved' if he signed for Man Utd. As if Manchester did not have its own distractions & as if his self-destructive tendencies would not have manifest anywhere.

I mean, if you really want to take all of 'the history of football' into consideration then Newcastle would also be a tier below Sunderland.

“Look at our big name temporary signing who did a great thing half a decade ago”. Laporta knows his base and how dumb and starstruck they are when you whaft the vaguest of big names at them.
