I just finished reading a remarkable book titled Gone Too Soon: A Family’s Journey through Loss and Healing by Dr. Tekleab Elos Hailu. Dr. Tekleab, my former colleague at Haramaya University, is someone I have known for more than three decades (1/4)

I have witnessed how he & his wife, Mulu, lovingly raised their wonderful children. It recounts the heartbreaking loss of their son, Mehari—who is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth, and their two sons & daughter—and the profound impact this tragedy had on the entire family (2/4)

It evoked in me two contrasting emotions: on one hand, it is deeply sorrowful, filled with moments of anguish & loss; on the other, it movingly portrays the family’s spiritual growth, their transformed outlook on life and emergence as a testament to endurance & resilience (3/4)

As someone who has known their children since their childhood, I was moved to tears while reading the book. I highly recommend this book to all who have known the family, as well as to others who, I am sure, will find much to learn from it (4/4)
