Vice President Harris recently introduced herself with her pronouns and describing her clothing. This is how Empathable begins our experiential inclusion and belonging sessions because what we wear is an expression of our identity.

Successful delegation requires either knowing who the best person is or asking questions and listening. You need to understand intrinsic motivations to know if the task and person are a good fit If you don't, you're failing as a manager.

It can be hard when you have high hopes for a new hire and they don't work out. How you feel when people leave depends on how you made them feel welcome and included. Leaders need to be aware of this. If you are, you'll know you did your best

Good leaders don't multitask in meetings. Some meetings will be boring. Some will be meander. But all of them equally require your unfocussed attention.

If a supervisor asks, “How are things at home?”, employees need to feel certain that their answer won't be held against them. Mutual exchanges create this trust. Authentic leaders make us feel safe, included, and willing to contribute new ideas.

Instead of vanity plates, how about empathy plates? Words of hope, inspiration, and encouragement for strangers on the road. What would you put on your empathy plate?

The body doesn't distinguish between racial & emotional belonging. Some people in privileged cultures are told that they're not creating space for others to feel a sense of racial belonging. However, they themselves might feel a lack of belonging in terms of their own shame.

Empathy is an investment in a relationship which will inevitably have volatility. Someone calling you on a mistake you've made is going to depend on how much you've deposited into that empathy bank. If you've deposited nothing, you won't survive the volatility of that mistake.

Work is broken. We are tuned out, overwhelmed, and confused with the goals of our leadership. We need professional interventions that fit within the flow of how we think, behave, and work today, not out-of-touch leadership telling us that we need to behave differently.

As sensitivity and inclusiveness grows in the world, it is becoming more important to be awake, connected to your team, and trusted by them.
