2/We must be strategic—aligning interests, deepening collaboration, and broadening networks—as we take pragmatic steps toward reparatory justice. The TST and chattel slavery were multi-stakeholder endeavors; solutions must be inclusive, multidimensional, and widely supported.

The “Apology and Repair” side event, co-hosted by the CARICOM UN Caucus and Laura Trevelyan, spotlighted families who’ve apologized for their role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade (TST) and descendants of the enslaved. #ReparatoryJustice

2/ He noted the positive role apologies can play in reparatory justice and that Jamaica welcomes these acknowledgements and efforts to remedy and atone for past actions, and encourages other families, institutions and governments to follow suit. #Reparations

3/He recalled that after slavery’s abolition, the British gov’t compensated slave-owning families—but not the enslaved nor their descendants. CARICOM leads the call for reparatory justice with its Ten Point Plan, urging European governments to acknowledge, apologize, and act.

1/6 The PMUNs of Jamaica, Kenya and KNL hosted an event on “The Declaration on Future Generations & Financing for Development on 1 May at the PMUNs of Jamaica. Amb. Wallace underscored the timeliness of the event—coming after the ECOSOC Forum on FfD and ahead of FfD4 in Seville.
