Flies are enormously important as decomposers & recyclers, and are vital for food chains: numerous birds, bats & fish depend on them. Another role is becoming increasingly recognised: their contribution to myiophily, that is, pollination by flies. Blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpress.com

Wet grassland, so full of life today. Diversity of plant, fungi, moss & invertebrate life. Very under rated, so many lost to drainage.

Last chance to vote for one Garden Against the World to win the People’s Book Prize! Thanks to all who have voted so far. If you haven’t, it takes two minutes and would be a huge boost for a book on climate and biodiversity. Thanks! peoplesbookprize.com/2024-cat/non-f…

Surrounded by the constant bloom of her beloved gorse, Fox realised she was having one of those days when everything was going well. She was feeling content. We don't often notice them, she thought. We only notice the bad ones. She decided to notice the good ones from now on too.

Beautiful rosy, purple and white lilacs are blooming in gardens and hedgerows now, their heady perfume carrying on the breeze. Their name comes from the Persian word ‘nīlak’ meaning ‘blue’ or ‘bluish’. In the language of flowers they are an emblem of the budding feelings of love.

This week is hedgehog awareness week, so we want to discuss hedgehog highways! A fantastic thing you can do to support these endangered species is to connect your garden with your neighbour's. Follow the link to find out how do get started🦔 : buff.ly/ZEtzer2
