The word 'bahasa' in Indonesian literally means language,so that is silly. Someone on the reply said we locals mostly use 'Bahasa' to just get it over with white people/foreigners, and I agree. Plus, it is a matter of identity. We Indonesians speak Indonesian, not just 'Bahasa'.

Hmm 🤔🤔 happened a couple of times to me (altho I don't speak Indonesian). Some people ask, "hi do you speak bahasa?" Confused, bcos I still understand that Bahasa means "language" It's like, "ayo, bro, do you speak language?" Yea I'm using language to speak to you rn
