Happening today: UN Women Ethiopia in collaboration with Mixed Migration Centre held a half day workshop in Addis and shared the findings of the survey on the situation of migrant women in #Ethiopia.

The forum, with ~30 participants, provided valuable inputs for programming, policymaking & implementation by emphasizing the implications of the findings. Attendees included gov't reps, UN agencies, CSOs, academics, international orgs, dev't partners and migrant women returnees.

Frankline Okumu, Operations Manager at UN Women Ethiopia, emphasized that sex-disaggregated data is key to upholding migrant women’s rights. He called for using survey findings to design gender-responsive migration programs and evidence-based policies for impact.

Displaced Eritreans are affected in both their ability to move and their security during their journey. Based on interviews with Eritreans who left Eritrea and key informants, our new report highlights these challenges. Key findings include ⬇️ (1/5)

🚨 At least 76 people died off Yemen’s coast, dozens still unaccounted for.  A lack of legal pathways forces migrants onto dangerous land and sea routes to avoid detection — relying on smugglers and facing high risks of abuse and exploitation.

On Aug 5th, a boat carrying 250 Ethiopian migrants, including 82 children, arrived in southern Yemen. IOM has reported that 7 died of hunger and thirst after their boat broke down. Without regular pathways people will continue to face these risk.

The total reliance on smugglers shows how few safe, legal options  migrants going to Yemen have. We surveyed 1,645 migrants in Yemen about their routes, the smugglers they relied on, and the dangers faced. Explore the infographic to see what they said: f.mtr.cool/dbojmzgbhq
