A day after Miami Beach votes 7-0 against a planned train to South Beach, Florida DOT continues with their planned "mega project" including double-decking another highway through urban neighborhoods. City of Miami Beach is supportive.

A lot of people like to talk Vision Zero, but they don't really do Vision Zero. Real Vision Zero usually involves making officials and engineers uncomfortable. That's because it requires creative interpretations of policies and actually inconveniencing drivers.

You periodic reminder that 5-over-1s could look exactly like this if the architects had enough humility to learn things long proven to work. But no, it’s trained out of us in architecture school, where I spent 5 years. Been trying to make up for it ever since.

You want to believe in federal grant programs like Reconnecting Communities but then it funds parks under terrible highway expansion projects. Isn’t the point to reduce harms, not invite more? thenextmiami.com/downtown-miami…

We’re not just being cute when we celebrate small wins. Small actions have a unique way of cascading into nonlinear, systemic change— because things that are within reach of everyday people are more likely to inspire copycats.

We are proud to announce the installation of several, important quick-build projects across our community as part of the NACTO Designing Cities Conference. These are aimed at cycling and pedestrian safety and overall roadway efficiency. #GoMiamiDade #VisionZero #NACTO2024

Crazy that Miami has a bus route with 6-min headways & 24 hour service that gets more ridership than most US light rail lines, yet there's absolutely no urgency to convert it to rail

This kind of “bike lane” is the result of a bureaucratic design process that’s completely disconnected from human experiences in physical reality. No one who owns a bike would ever approve this design.

Infuriating to watch, especially after meeting people who moved here specifically to ride these lanes. Here’s to hoping the ReMove Culver City saga will be a footnote in our long term urbanist future in greater SoCal✌🏻

Look closely. A sidewalk cafe with no parklet protection. A woman casually riding a bike with no helmet. Two street artists having a conversation in the street, and lots of others. And a car. Where's the mayhem? There is none due to human-speed cars.

Tomorrow Gainesville will be taking the final vote on reducing minimum lot sizes and simplifying our single-family zoning code. The RSF-#'s at the top will be collapsed into the "RSF" category at the bottom, allowing more homes to be built in more places.
