Did something a bit different last night. Captured the exoplanet transit of WASP-23 b, a gas giant about the size of 0.9 Jupiters orbiting a 12.7 magnitude K type star every 2.9 days. Distance from Earth 662 ly. Telescope: Edge 9.25, Camera: ZWO ASI294MM #astrophotography

Another successful transit. This time it was WASP 19 b, a crazy β€œHot Jupiter” with an orbital period of 19 hours!!!! Captured from Cape Town with a standard astrophotography rig. #exoplanets #astrophotography #astronomy #space

It’s almost the end of 2024. Here are some of my best images this year. In 2025 there are plans to build a remote Observatory at a Bortle 1 site near Ceres. There will be up to 6 piers for rental, so watch this space next month for more details. Happy New Year #astrophotography

Thor’s Helmet (NGC 2359), is an emission nebula located about 12,000 light-years away in the constellation Canis Major. Its distinctive shape is created by intense stellar winds from a Wolf-Rayet star. Captured with the RASA 8 & ZWO ASI533MM #astrophotography #NGC2359

The Cobra and Mouse (NGC 2442 and NGC 2443) are two parts of a single intermediate spiral galaxy. It is about 50 million light-years away in the constellation Volans. This is the first part of this project consisting of luminance data. Colour to follow. #astrophotography #galaxy

What do you do when you get out to dark skies? Well, it’s obvious, right? You capture one of the most iconic objects in the sky….The Horse Head Nebula. This is a little under three hours using the SW Esprit 100 and the ASI2600MC Pro, captured from beautiful Gecko Rock reserve.

This image of M 104 was captured in one night from the Cederberg Observatory using a SW Esprit 100 & ZWO ASI2600MC Pro. This is a stack of 60 300 sec subs, so an effective 5 hours of exposure time. #astrophotography #space #sombrerogalaxy #M104
