"Being or becoming a lone parent while their children are young more than doubles the chances of a person experiencing poverty” - Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI). Families of people in prison often become lone-parent families because of imprisonment, adding extra financial stress to families.
We're supporting #KinshipCareWeek! Kinship care is when children/young people live full-time with a relative/close family friend because they are unable to live with their parents. So far in 2024, 9% of Kinship Care Ireland's callers reported a link to parental imprisonment.
