Today we say thank you and goodbye to ARCHER HPC Service – the UK’s national supercomputing service, based at EPCC. ARCHER has been helping the research community run simulations and calculations to solve big problems since 2013. #FarewellARCHER

The centralised computing resource has supported many projects across scientific disciplines. Research from EPCC student, Xueping Gao, helped to monitor & predict climate change by simulating the movement of Greenland using glacier modeling software. #FarewellARCHER

ARCHER also helped to improve cloud modelling for better weather & climate prediction. The code developed by the EPCC The University of Edinburgh University of St Andrews University of Leeds research team is now used by atmospheric scientists around the UK: archer.ac.uk/casestudies/Ar… #FarewellARCHER

Most recently, ARCHER has supported researchers to develop computational simulations of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This has helped to understand the virus & develop new drug targets for the treatment of #COVID19. youtube.com/watch?v=VSmTgu… #TacklingCoronavirus #farewellARCHER
