Geomorphology Lab students put their lab skills to the test out in the field on Thursday, when they had to describe the soils on the upper Greenway. Shout out to Landscape Services at Appalachian State for digging the soils trench so we could uncover and describe the entire soil profile!

Big chunk of West Cliff fell into the bay today because the City of Santa Cruz doesn’t properly manage the surface runoff. Public works gets a fat budget for sea level rise and geotechnical surveys, while parks and rec who manages the surface runoff, goes broke and understaffed.

We are lucky to have the Blue Ridge Parkway Blue Ridge Parkway in our backyard and opportunities for our students to get involved in conservation. This morning there were 24 Appalachian State students volunteering, amongst them these three awesome Environmental Science majors. App State College of Arts and Sciences
