Today in the bom HC we argued that private unaided schools cannot be exempt from providing 25% seats to children from weaker sections/disadvantaged groups under the RTE act if there is a govt school in the vicinity (1 km radius in Maharashtra’s case)

Rare to see a case complete its life this soon but last week the SC dismissed an SLP against the bom HC order which had quashed the amendment. So no exemption to pvt UA schools + importantly the quick turnaround will mean RTE students in Maha won’t lose out on this academic year.
