I’ve been a major fan of Adbusters since I infiltrated the advertising undergraduate program at Central Saint Martins 20+ years ago. I never intended to spend even a day in the industry, but I did teach myself how to use the medium for truth instead of neocolonialist capitalism.

The anthropologizing of people in the global South by British ‘academics’, ‘experts’ and their flocks is not only creepy af. They seriously still don’t realize the global South is looking right back at them like they are totally insane.

I loved taking part in this great initiative led by Dr. Catherine Heinemeyer at York St John University in the UK. She developed an arts education program exploring climate justice with a girls school in a small working class town nearby and emerged with some ace insights. Arts educators take note!

In case anyone hasn’t figured it out yet, the fight for human rights and climate justice is being led by people of the global South. Pay attention. Peel off your archaic colonial mindsets. Listen. Learn. SUPPORT. Adapt. Heal. Fall in love with yourself, and with others. Grow. 🌿

Shoutout to any other London-born New Yorkers of color watching UK race chats play out. It’s the sensation of going back in time 10 years to be retraumatized. Teaching white and assimilated folks adequate behavior and vocabulary was maddening, tiring, and tedious the first time.
