Use our migrant child labor data!

More children are crossing the border on their own than ever before, and thousands are ending up doing dangerous, illegal jobs.

We sued the government for a huge trove of data about these kids, and shared it all here: github.com/nytimes/hhs-ch…

🚨 New Working Paper! 🚨

Do labor market conditions affect the hiring discrimination of union supporters?

Short answer: Yes they do. I find that discrimination is pro-cyclical and mainly observable among firms without a collective agreement.

Excited to get the revised version of this paper out!

This is still one of my favorite papers I’ve worked on, which combines rich descriptives, theory, and causal reduced form analysis to help resolve some important puzzles in measured self-employment trends

**New Paper** The US spent $6.3 billion dollars to revitalize hundreds of public housing projects between 1993-2010. Did these investments transform high-poverty neighborhoods into mixed-income communities? Did subsidized renters benefit? matthewstaiger.github.io/matthewstaiger…

Announcing my new book with Princeton University Press @princetonupress.bsky.s!

The empirical economics literature on climate impacts has exploded in recent years.

'Slow Burn' attempts an accessible synthesis, highlighting some of the more subtle human consequences of a warming world.

Very pleased to see the article we wrote with S. Harnay and A. Rebérioux published in Industrial Relations

We study codetermination, i.e. the inclusion of employee representatives on company boards, and examine their power within the boardroom

Great addition to the policy-relevance debate from Jakob — whose group at the CMA is doing stellar work at the intersection of policy and research

Soumaya Keynes with some good thoughts on the recent discussion of how economists can be more useful to policymakers, triggered by Jed Kolko's recent article.

Let me add four thoughts of my own.

How is this leveled playing field in terms of marketing of work, networking opportunities, and promotion decisions!!??? My career depends on these opportunities but the level of fighting/planning it takes to do anything is unreal! The constraints are impossible to meet!

Do Firms Have an Incentive to Comply with the US Federal Minimum Wage?

A thread 🧵, w/ results from my updated WP (with newly-FOIA-ed data on liquidated damages and hot good violations, for all the enforcement nerds out there).

One thing I'm particularly proud of from my time at LinkedIn is being an enabler of this awesome paper by Jessica Jeffers on the negative impact of non-competes.

This great paper by Sammy Young & Sean Wang deservedly highlighted.

Documents union avoidance behavior by multi-site employers: shifting employment to other nonunion locations.

Also uses clever RDD extrapolation methods to avoid the problem of only looking at close elections
