If you fancy some holiday listening - Michael Liebreich - @MLiebreich.bsky.social’s Ep110: Adair Turner "Lord of the Net Zero Transition" And watch for Climateworks Centre’s related work in Aus due out early 2023
Interesting research about Adani Group. The International Energy Agency says no new coal, oil or gas if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change. So time for fossil fuel producers is do something else - or it will cost all of us.
Today Climateworks Centre research shows Australia's heavy industry sectors can achieve 90% emissions reductions by 2050. Crucial for our economy - and for keeping the world to a 1.5ºC limit. There's a path - it needs action now by industry, investors, government - and us.
Really interesting work by Better Renting. Improving rental homes is dear to my heart both professionally and personally. I live in a largely uninsulated weatherboard house with big windows to the north & west. Definitely a hot box in summer. (It's great in other ways!)
Until now, steelmaking relied on furnaces + coal, but new techniques of green steelmaking are being pioneered. However, the Pilbara's vast hematite ores may not work with these techniques, write Dr Tessa Leach + Tyra Horngren (Monash University). Climateworks Centre bit.ly/3GfMFi9
Good steps in #budget2023 towards implementing Australia's legislated net zero target: - Net Zero Authority - $2bn for hydrogen production - $1.3bn for energy performance Looking forward to working with Australian Government on these to ensure action is in line with 1.5C.
Initial thoughts on the budget from Climateworks Centre colleagues and I as the Aus federal budget takes important steps toward net zero on hydrogen, housing and more. climateworkscentre.org/news/the-austr…
Perfect timing for this article by my clever Climateworks Centre colleagues on how to upgrade energy performance of our homes. This week the Energy Efficiency Council is running two events discussing #energyefficiency - get in touch and find out more.
