Ukrainian resilience is a great source of admiration, but shouldn't be treated as a limitless resource. 'Ukrainians have lived in this full scale invastion non-stop [for 3 years]. Europe needs to pull its weight' Jaroslava Barbieri for Chatham House podcast chathamhouse.org/2025/07/indepe…

Neither Ukraine nor the country’s partners can afford to wait until the war is over before addressing the many profound security, economic, and social issues arising from Russia’s invasion. My reflections from last week's #URC2025 👇 atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…

📢 NEW | Understanding Russia's Black Sea strategy For nearly 20 years, Europe & NATO have underestimated 🇷🇺's Black Sea ambitions. A new Chatham House paper by Natalie Sabanadze & Galip Dalay shows why that must change - and how the West can respond. 🔗chathamhouse.org/2025/07/unders…

How is this still happening? How can russia be allowed to casually wipe out one residential building after another — facing full impunity? Where is that beautiful international law that so vigorously protects frozen russian money? Why doesn't it protect us w/ the same urgency?

Every morning for over 3 years now, first thing I do - I check a bunch of telegram channels to see what happened in my hometown Kyiv overnight, check with family if they are ok, check which buildings were hit... This photo looked like the building I grew up in... Very similar💔

'News of the venue for the Putin - Trump summit, Alaska, is the clearest indication yet that the two leaders want to showcase a great power summit - akin to Yalta - where the two leaders divide up the world in their own interests.' Full text by Timothy Ash timothyash.substack.com/p/ukraine-froz…

Alexander Stubb called Kramatorsk and Slovyansk “a bastion against the Huns.” That’s it — he’s Ukraine’s favorite now 🇫🇮🇺🇦

I appreciate the new catchphrase 'stop the killing'. But what's equally important is 'justice for the killed, tortured, abducted and left without homes'. Russia must pay for this war. Not just stop the killing. Justice & reparations must be part of any peace deal negotiations.

'The big question remains: can Putin be forced to accept and abide by a security arrangement for Ukraine? The type of forces deployed in Ukraine, whether a peacekeeping or reassurance force, remains a contentious issue' Writes Orysia Lutsevych (Ukraine Forum) chathamhouse.org/2025/08/trumps…

Russia's fastest growing group is Muslims, Orthodox Christianity is at a 20 year low, only one percent of Russians even attended Christmas mass (compared to 50 percent in the United States), yet many Americans are falling for the fiction that Russia is a Christian super power.

My last piece for Chatham Kildosher House Ukraine Forum The true brain behind it, though, is my co-author, Vlad Dubrovskiy. Full credit to him. The timing though is good. Like the proverbial tree, the best time to pressure Russia was years ago. The second best time is now. Here’s how

This blunt and dangerous act requires response: revive the air shield idea #ukraine now pushes for a year, tighten control in Baltic straights for russian oil export, confiscate RCB sovereign assets. If this goes at low cost for #russia - expect more.
