today I caught turtle 582 , nicknamed "squishy", b/c he has a massive dent in his right-side. maybe had a run-in with a mower years ago (despite being about 1 km from mowed grass), or munched by a predator that never finished the job.

this is about the most male box turtle you'll ever see. Has all of the male-associated characteristics (red eyes, etc). also wants to kick your ass.

🚨 New publication: shorturl.at/QRb76 📝 Out today in the The Royal Society proceedings B. We find that diversionary feeding boosts productivity of cappercaille from 0.82 to 1.90. Indicating that this impact based method can effectively reduce the influence of predation.

If we want to ensure a future for large carnivores in human-dominated landscapes, it’s time to modernize our tools and move beyond simple counts and towards data-driven, spatially explicit approaches. Check our latest publication: doi.org/10.1002/2688-8… #wolves #EIA #SCR
