Modelling experiences and memories as trajectories through word-embedding spaces: Andy Heusser, Paxton Fitzpatrick, and Jeremy Manning examine the idiosyncratic ways people preserve or distort the “shapes” of their experiences when they encode them into memories buff.ly/2NhB0GO
We're thrilled to announce that the latest addition to the "Sherlock papers" family is now live! This was a super cool paper to work on, and it builds on awesome science from janice chen, Chris Baldassano, Norman Lab, Hasson Lab, and others.🧵...
So happy to finally get this out. It was a multi-year endeavor spanning births, deaths, new jobs, a pandemic and more. Would not have been possible without the Herculean effort from Paxton Fitzpatrick to get this across the finish line and unwavering support/mentoring from Jeremy Manning
Introducing PyMC Labs - our new Bayesian consultancy. Read about our mission: pymc-labs.io/blog-posts/sav… Over the last couple of months we have quietly been building an amazing team and working on fascinating client projects. Couldn't be more excited to share what we've been up to!
What gets us absorbed in movies and stories? Is there a neural signature of attentional engagement to narratives? Does this neural signature predict what we will go on to remember about a story? work with Monica Rosenberg Emily Finn now out! 1/4 pnas.org/content/118/33…

A fascinating discussion on using #Bayesian methods to test a range of computational models. 🔽 🖥️Likelihood Approximations for Cognitive Modeling with #PyMC 🎙️Andy Heusser, Titi Ala'ilima, Thomas Wiecki, Alexander Fengler #statistics #python youtu.be/LD03v_eOo88
Check out our new preprint on learning from Khan Academy videos (by Paxton Fitzpatrick, Andy Heusser, and Jeremy Manning)! We use text embeddings to model and map what people know and how knowledge changes over time. Preprint: psyarxiv.com/dh3q2 Code/data: github.com/ContextLab/eff…
Today I learned that Columbia University will not be promoting me or putting me up for tenure. I have multiple active grants (including an R01 and a CAREER award) plenty of publications, a teaching award, and a history of DEI advocacy. Open to all opportunities in and out of academia.
