In our new paper, led by Juan Serratosa, 1704 deaths of 45 large, migratory bird species we tracked show that human-caused deaths are more than natural deaths. Majority of deaths are from electrocution (40.5%), illegal killing (21.7%) & poisoning (16.3%): sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Partners in crime in North Ostrobothnia. Lapwings and curlews are already courting, will they keep going in the incoming frosty weeks, or will they pause? We'll see! #shorebird #Finland #Ornithology

With the end of the cold spell, lapwings season is accelerating around Oulu. When not nesting in the barren, desolated landscape of a ploughed field, finding nests is quite a challenge! #shorebirds #lapwing #ornithology

[Please RT] Waders can be tough cookies to photograph while incubating, and even a not so discreet bird like this black-tailed godwit can blend in! Would you like to joing the project? That's your chance! #shorebird #ornithology #camouflage

#ruffs eggs have been showing an increase in aberrant egg color this year across multiple field sites - has any of the #wader researchers noticed such a trend? #eggblue 😁

Speciation process in brood parasites could be influenced by the recognition abilities and rejection mechanisms of their hosts. A new hypothesis on how hosts can affect evolutive trajectory in parasites. Read my mini-review in J. of Avian Biology now available: doi.org/10.1111/jav.03…

It's summer, and migratory birds are already on the move! Thanks to detailed GPS tracking, we can admire their complex journeys and gain crucial insights into their habitat use. Look at the trajectory of a #CommonRedshank ringed in 🇨🇿 this spring, now in Camargue 🇫🇷 | #HABITRACK

Migration has started (again). The Teros/Southern Lapwings of Rio Grande, Argentina, breeding at the southernmost tip of their distribution, are flying to their wintering areas. They usually fly straight until the edge of the Andean mountains, in the region of Coyhaique #scicomm

As many other, I've migrated to bluesky. If by chance you're following me, please consider moving from this hellscape. Eventually I'll also post something there, so you can follow me for bird related stuff!
