The Trump Administration has cancelled the research grant of America's foremost mathematician, in case you had any lingering doubt as to whether or not they were committed to actually advancing science.

My great-grandfather helped invent chemotherapy. He’s part of the legacy of how breakthroughs in medical science have saved so many lives. And now we’re going to throw away years of groundbreaking research because we put a manifestly unqualified person in charge of public health.

Is this really necessary, Tim Cook? It had to be 24 karat gold? Looks like a clip from a ceremony of tribute for Türkmenbaşy back in the day.

Thank you Jeff Dean. I may have missed others but this is the first time I have seen leadership in tech arguing publicly against the government assault on science. Academia and tech should be standing shoulder to shoulder advocating for public investment in basic science.

1) Chairmanship of a dept is not what you offer to attract a mathematician! 2) I would be surprised if Tao had not received standing offers with more favorable conditions than in the US for many years now. 3) US research will collapse very quickly unless this route is reversed

700km in 7 hours - a new rail record in the US. Greetings from Italy, where the 700km journey from Milan to Naples takes 4 hours.

Elon Musk openly called for violence on our streets yesterday. I hope politicians from all parties come together to condemn his deeply dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric. Britain must stand united against this clear attempt to undermine our democracy.

My heart goes out to all the families and individuals anxious over their futures following the abrupt and chaotic announcement of H-1B visa changes. America should be working to attract more skilled talent, not create uncertainly that turns them away. To all legal immigrants

Isn't that wild? Tylenol, introduced in 1955, caused no rise until the DSM-III added autism and the government started paying schools to diagnose kids. 25-year-lag makes a lot of biological sense, right?

As someone that spends a good fraction of his time reading and writing, the increasing prevalence of LLM-written text feels like living among zombies.

The surest way to screw up the world’s best technical school is to let feds tell them how to run it. Congrats to my alma mater for turning down a bribe to let the executive branch dictate what happens on its campus. A lot of things are wrong in 🇺🇸, but MIT is not one of them.

Unbelievable: the famed Berkeley Math Circle is being forced to shut down due to a bureaucratic requirement where a guest lecturer giving an hour long lesson needs to be officially fingerprinted. How is fingerprinting even still a thing in the 21st century? Chancellor Lyons

I am an AC for ICLR 2026. One of the papers in my batch was just withdrawn. The authors wrote a brief response, explaining why the reviewers failed at their job. I agree with most of their comments. The authors gave up. They are fed up. Just like many of us. I understand. We
