- 1.5m people crammed into an area about the size of Limerick City. Aerial photos in EL PAÍS show the surge of tents from October (L) to April (R). Aid not getting in, hunger widespread - and now the fear of bombs & tanks arriving. Trying to flee again.

currently this article uses the 'civil conflict' infobox (the same template used for Tiananmen Square massacre, Iranian Revolution, Stonewall Riots, Arab Spring, and the Jan 6 Capitol attack)

devoured this book over the weekend while painting my front door (also a kind of art I say), it's excellent, a top Complicated Friendship memoir and surely will be one of the nonfic books of the year

My cold take on this is that ChatGPT was hyped and framed as a general artificial intelligence that could do just about anything, when in fact it’s a specific form of artificial intelligence that does just a few things well (including faking the ability to do many others)

it's that time of year, on his date of execution, when I mention that when Thomas McDonagh taught his last ever class at UCD on Jane Austen, he signed off with 'There's no one like Jane, lads!' and then went out to start a revolution

The British Museum has many Irish artefacts of unknown function in their stores and I think it would be good if they were honest with us which are among the 'missing' and stolen artefacts theguardian.com/culture/2023/a…

I’ll actually be sad to see this go. Some people considered it an eyesore.
Personally I always thought it was more akin to an artwork. Specifically, it’s v similar to installations by Rachael Whiteread, the English artist who famously cast the insides of a house in London.

Very sad to hear that Paul Auster has died. Can’t tell you how much his early novels affected me. This, in particular, a book about language, identity, writing, anxiety, and melting into the city. Absolute magic.

Londoners: have you ever worked in the Gherkin?

I'm looking for people to talk about what it's like to spend the working day in the City's best-loved skyscraper (either now or years ago - doesn't matter).

For a thing. DMs open, as ever.
