A middle school student mentioned how it feels to always be picked last for a team in PE. Often the last picked then get traded to another team in exchange for a friend. WHY is this still happening at all?
Finnish students spend 50 % less time in school than students in the US and yet they get 15 mins of recess every hour. Oh and that 50% less time actually gives teachers time to plan, collaborate and prep without spending their nights and weekends doing so.
Classroom management IS managing the environment through authentic connection, consistent routines, procedures, and high expectations for all students.
Classroom management is NOT managing studentsβ behavior.
Manage the environment, not the students.
How cool would it be if once-a-week high schools purchased a copy of the local paper for each student and gave them an hour to read through and discuss everything in it via small groups/seminars?
We spend 50% more hours in school than Finland. They get 15 mins of recess every hour. They have NO standardized tests except for PISA in HS & they outperform us every time. The irony is that they created their system based on US schools and US university research in the 1970's.
