In our conference room we repurposed some of the original floor joists by cleaning them and removing the nails-there were enough nails to fill 1 ½ five-gallon buckets! We combined them with Acoustic Ceiling Baffles from Turf to create the perfect balance of old and new.

Another place we repurposed the original floor joists from the Icehouse was behind the reception desk. This time we had the boards cut and planed to give them a more refined look.

One of the things we enjoy is seeing how the buildings we design will be used after we've finished the project, and Mark Arts always has something fun! Join them this weekend for their Art Market and Open House. Click the link for more information. markartsks.com/event-director…

The Icehouse began storing blocks of ice in 1909. We wanted to show its history so we left the floor in our breakroom the original concrete. New concrete had to be filled in by the walls, this was a gap where the water from the melting ice would run down to the floors below.

One side of our office is the original building while the other side is new. The original columns had capitals and we mimicked the look on the new columns. If you look closely at the ceiling you can see how the concrete forms were made from planks of wood vs sheets of plywood.

Happy ā€˜National Old Stuff Day’! Some of the oldest things we have in our office are these renderings from one of our first projects back in 1982 for The Heritage Plaza.

Voting for Wichita's Coolest Office starts Thursday (don't worry we'll remind you!) In the meantime, we wanted to show you some other areas of our office.

We hope you've enjoyed learning about the story of our office and how we tried to preserve the history as much as possible. But we all agree some things are better left in the past!

In 2018 Occidental Management hired Alloy to be the architects for the renovation of the IceHouse. We realized what a unique building this was and moved our new offices on the 2nd floor in 2020. Since then, Occidental Management and Sunflower Bank have also become tenants.
