The World at War, narrated by Laurence Olivier tells the story of WWII using dramatic film and remarkable interviews with statesmen and military leaders of the time. This Emmy award winning series, transmitted in 1973 was the most expensive factual series ever made at the time.

David Dinsmore was 20 when the unspeakable tragedy of Hillsborough happened and the disgraceful Sun front page was published. Like me, he did not join the paper until after that. It is not sensible to oppose his HMG appointment because of his much later time as editor.

I suggest you read the Hansard entry for Wednesday 21 July 1937: hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/1937-0…. Read especially the speech from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and note particularly his comment about the Balfour Declaration, the text of which was taken in its entirety into the

When a history museum rewrites history to appease the president, it stops being a museum and starts being state propaganda. Straight-up Orwellian.

I’d quibble with “scarce” - the problem is that an abundance of renewables potential does not translate into lower costs. But otherwise, an excellent thread. The bunfight over whether gas or net zero are driving bills higher obscures the truth that both are partly responsible.

It would seem that the current position in Scottish politics is that there should be a referendum every 10 years or so on the constitutional issue as there would be a new tranche of voters who didn't vote the last time. This is a very interesting position to take.

“At the heart” of the SNP’s new campaign for independence will be an argument that is straightforwardly false. Scottish renewables are absolutely not “low-cost”. On average, they are high-cost, and depend on being able to defray those high costs across all GB bill payers.
