Ontario healthcare unions share stark numbers: • 2,096 people died on waiting lists for surgeries in 2022-2023, up almost 50% from year before • 9,400 patients died waiting for MRI & CT scans • currently 37,000 vacancies in hospitals “we have nowhere near the capacity we need”

Maybe neighbourhood townhalls are not where you turn for longstanding, studied, complex issues like homelessness. Do you hold townhalls on what random people think about how to treat heart disease? Or maybe that intentional omission hides under the illusion of consultation.

I guess when you begin by defining neighbourhood and neighbours as separate from those without housing, it is not at all a suprising take.

Ameil J. Joseph Ph.D. (he/him) I think universities should do this as well, tbh. And I cited an old Twitter post of yours in making the argument here! muse.jhu.edu/article/864643

"We do not take a position", is one. Especially if the mass murder of children, aid workers, journalists, academics, healthcare providers, etc. is involved. You can say you oppose that. Its a reasonable position. Even if you are scared of being bullied by those who benefit.

The man shot and killed by Windsor police has now been identified as an Indigenous man. This means 6 Indigenous people have been killed by Canadian cops in the last week-and-a-half. Fashioning those in need into a threat & then rationalizing violence to eradicate those deemed worthy of that rests on the idea that demonizing & harming people is a solution. None of that is true. It makes everything & all of us worse via fear, hate, brutality & their residue.

Some people use words like anecdote to omit experiences of racism, they use activist to attempt to discredit the difficult work of engagement, they misuse the words lobbyest & ideologue to erase the voices of the marginalized & to permit knowledge-less policymaking. Call it out.

Today, I delegated to the sub-governance committee to support and discuss Cameron Kroetsch's motion to amend the @CityofHamilton's code of conduct to more fulsomely capture unacceptable behaviours from elected officials. A huge thank you to the YWCA Hamilton's CEO Medora Uppal

Note that it was the victims, not the killer, who lived in the homeless encampment. When an apartment resident is killed do we empty the apartment complex? Bryan Paterson is.gd/uF6Jm2

There are laws that deal with capacity and consent here in Ontario and the human rights code has primacy over them. Blanket statements that deem people incapable due to mental health or disability are ableist and sanist. Those ideas have rationalized harm. www3.ohrc.on.ca/en/en/policy-p…

Forced, coerced, and punishable "support" is not support, care, or help. It is the application of the imposition of a supremacist position (i.e. "I know what should happen to you better than you"). Those maneuvers attempt to fashion violence into ideas of help. It never works.

Follow the money. If the money is being budgeted for carceral and penal infrastructure and not for care, you are building a carceral facility.
