“It is quite alright. I was distracted, myself.” He attempted a polite smile, but his discomfort was difficult to hide. Among others was the last place he wished to be at the moment.

“Nothing, unfortunately. Forgive me, it is simply my sour mood.” He clears his throat and straightens his posture. “I do not wish to spoil your evening.”

“Is the ton truly that awful?” He supposed he wouldn’t know— he’s been shutting himself away since they arrived. “You would find more entertainment with a least favored prince?”

“I am alright— just homesick, I suppose.” It wasn’t the only issue at hand, but certainly an acceptable and honest answer. “Thank you for your concern. And you? What distracts you tonight?”

“Oh, yes, very much so. Had you spilled your drink on me, I may have had a good enough excuse to step outside for a moment.” He plays up his sigh for effect as he snatches his own glass from a passing server. “Alas, your reflexes are much too impressive.”

he waves a dismissive hand. “if you insist. i suppose you would be the one to suffer the judgement after all. though if you truly do not like most of these people, i imagine being forced to abide by their rules is rather frustrating.”
