The Hagia Sophia has been suffering cases of vandalism since its conversion into a mosque... The barbarity continues unfortunately.

I attended a fascinating presentation by Dr Monica Jackson on the Hellenistic Gold Jewellery from the Benaki Museum Collection. The event was organised by the Greek Consulate of Sydney in conjunction with the AAIA Sydney.

Came to Istanbul to view its Byzantine heritage: - Hagia Sophia: mosque, mosaics covered up or inaccessible - Chora church: ‘temporarily’ closed - Tekfur Sarayi: supposed to be open, but closed - Bucoleon: ‘temporarily’ closed - Pammakaristos: ‘temporarily’ closed Etc.

Very much enjoying Peter Sarris' book on Justinian. Although I am a bit confused.. It claims that Cyril of Alexandria rejected the Council of Chalcedon in 451 A.D, where we know that St. Cyril died in 444 AD.
