What is the difference between TPMs (Technical Program Managers), PMs (Project Managers) and POs (Product Owners)? A lot. Be careful about what type of software engineering organization you are building.

Danny Thompson Humility. Empathy. Respect. Clear communication. Curiosity. Selflessness. Teamwork. Critical thinking. Coincidentally, these will also make you a better person.

Equating "on schedule" with "success" is the worst sort of factory/waterfall thinking, predicated on exactly implementing an up-front design with no agility. We don't do that. 5/7

YAGNI is great, but there are exceptions to it, e.g. Versioning and Zero One Infinity. Also mentions "Embrace Change" of Kent Beck 🌻 which is pure gold after 20+ years.

Gall's Law keeps coming up, today: “A complex system that works…invariably evolve[s] from a simple system that worked. The inverse [is also] true: A complex system designed from scratch never works & cannot be made to work. You have to start over…with a working simple system."

Effort feels like productivity. Working harder feels like getting more done. Rushing feels like producing. Struggling feels like doing something worthwhile. Busyness feels productive. Solo feels fast, because you're at your own maximum pace. Feeling-driven development

Instead of "when will this be done," ask "when can people start using this?" They're not the same question. You can create a feature in one big-bang (waterfall-style) or you can create it in a number of "value drops" and collect feedback along the way.

Open source model and inhouse software operations mix as well as oil and water. And yet, so many proprietary software teams adopt the open source model. And then they keep wondering why is it not working for them.
