Due to a unique school year that kept me on my toes, I didn’t finish this book until today. I thought I couldn’t get more excited to be a 1st year IC, I was wrong. Jim Knight has left me feeling MORE empowered to collaborate with teachers in their journeys to support students.

It’s amazing to see how our career paths have become connected. Michelle was @Waldman_LAES 4th grade teacher and Kathy Beatty was mine for Teacher Cadet in HS. I’m so excited for the opportunity to learn and collaborate with these 3, as well as the rest of the IC community!

From being a student at Union Mill, Liberty, and Centreville to teaching at Halley and now being an IC at Fairview, I’ve spent my whole life in R4. I’m stoked for the chance to remain in the region that has shaped me and work next to some of the leaders who shaped me personally.

I had this student during my most challenging year. A year when I woke up and went to bed with headaches. A year where the stress was so unbearable, my self-worth had declined. I remember working hard to keep that smile on his face. Today, he puts a smile on mine ❤️.

As the school year starts to settle in a little bit, I’ve been getting into classrooms. As I was leaving a 2nd grade room, the kids shouted out for me to stay and do “build it time” with them. This was my attempt to build motorcycles and a garage but I ran out of time 😂.

First grade teachers took a field trip to the book room to pick out their pre and post assessment texts. They were purposeful in their collaboration when identifying texts that supported the essential standards they identified. FairviewFalcons-FCPS 👌🏼

As a first year IC, there are definitely times when I miss the classroom. This came at the right time for me, mentally and emotionally. The academic impact is just as important as the personal impact.

My favorite parts of today were walking into my office and realizing that I had been pranked by some 6th graders and hitching a ride up to door #1. It’s only been a year, but Fairview will remain very special to me.

The close connections with kids is what I miss most about being in the classroom. That hasn’t stopped me from building relationships though 😊. Bucknell Elementary #BucknellStrong

I have never felt as in the right place at the right time as I do at Bucknell Elementary. This year has been magical and I’m so honored to be returning. Thank you Rashida Green (she/her/hers) for adding me to the family.

I’m happy and proud of how my 2nd year as an Instructional Coach ended. I’m also honored to be standing next to these leaders, as we move into year 3!
