First day of second grade in room 111! It’s going to be a fun year with this bunch!

Today in 2nd grade we practiced one of the Kagan Strategies called 4 corners! The students were able to actively discuss and listen to others about their opinions. 4 corners is a great way to keep students engaged and moving!

Today we practiced picking out books from our classroom library and are working on building endurance for reading! Way to go 2nd grade!

This week we introduced the Pop Quiz feature on our Viewboard. It was awesome to see lots of smiling faces and laughs as we tested out the app! Pop Quiz helps keep students engaged in their learning.

Today we introduced the Kagan Strategy, Give One, Get One. We practiced by coming up with different farm animals. They were successfully able to come up with as many farm animals as possible so they could “Give One” to another student. So proud of this second grade bunch!

Miss Whayne’s 2nd graders wrote Becky and I the sweetest letter! They were so proud to practice their choral reading while presenting it to us! They are thankful we taught them The Bobcat Way and we are thankful for how well they follow it! #GrowingGreatness #BPOnTheMove

Today in writing we talked about why writers write. We discussed that writers write about things they know a lot about and experiences that they’ve had. We worked hard to create our own list of possible topics that we could write about in the future! ✍️ #GrowingGreatness

Loved seeing these Smart Cookies work with their partner to spell single syllable words with digraphs. Next week we will introduce trigraphs and students will apply their skills using the kits again! #GrowingGreatness

Today we learned how to write a Book Review about books that we read. I love seeing how these smart cookies back up their opinions when recommending a book!

Our first Rockstar Readers! These two earned a ticket by being responsible during reader’s workshop. I can’t wait to see who will win next week! #BPGrowingGreatness

This week we are focusing on the 5 W’s while reading. Today we read “Those Shoes” and independently applied our skills in a Nearpod activity! #GrowingGreatness

Yesterday we applied our phonics skills with a 4 corners activity. We had to read the words and then figure out which word had either a closed or open syllable. I love seeing the students having meaningful conversations with one another! #GrowingGreatness

I love when students want their reward to be to eat lunch with their teacher! It truly warms my heart ❤️ #BPGrowsGreatness

⭐️BP Weekly Highlight⭐️ 2nd grade is learning about r-controlled vowels, vowel teams, and magic e syllables in phonics. They’re discussing a new genre of text, biography, in reading. They continue to improve their skills for skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s in math. 📚✏️

For shared reading today we used ReadWorks online. Each student could access the passage and type their answers on their own computer. They were so excited to gain a new experience!

⭐️BP Weekly Highlight⭐️ 2nd grade has built phonics skills learning about other vowel sounds and learned how All About books contain true information. In math, they discussed how to tell time using an analog clock and discussed coins and their individual values. 📚⏰
