I remember reading an article or research paper that lauded that use of explicatives (esp the f word) was a sign of high intelligence. It all makes sense now

One of the reasons why academia is broken And why dissent is so difficult to publish You absolutely should not have to BEFRIEND the top 20 guys in your field to get a grant or publish a paper

I make them show me the "dirty" filter. It's almost always clean and just needs a good shake One time they showed me and it was filthy (and I knew it was about time anyways) Most of the "recommended service" is based on mileage not an actual diagnostic, so I ask for specifics

Clarification on "no one can apply" In the old system, if you didn't have a first author publication, you were basically SOL, so most postponed until 2nd year. Unless you were physics and your GPA would definitely take a beating, so they applied 1st year. Most people wait, so

And with all of this turmoil with the #NSFGRFP, you should be applying for #ndseg and/or the Hertz fellowship. If you do space stuff, #NSTGRO. Better money, better perks, better standards for the review process. Way more competitive, but totally worth the effort.

Love how sodium (Na) and (Cl) are don't lick me, but when you put them together you get table salt PSA: Definitely do not lick sodium metal, it explodes on contact with water

This is my mom making Yorkshire puddings I actually videotaped her making them because every measure is arbitrary We have this one white spoon we use to scoop up flour, I think her recipe says 3 scoops. I also don't own that spoon that I hopefully inherit one day

Sometimes the first author didn't do the majority of the work. There was an authorship trade agreement between the PIs. And it ends up hurting one and helping another

Some cats just really like drinking out of glass containers. I had a friend with a cat like this who would only drink out of their glassware. I bought her a glass kitty bowl, switched it out and she, without argument, drank out of that instead

I can hear tiny electrical circuits strain/start to fail Very very useful at work when testing devices Very very not useful when trying to sleep in a hotel and someone made a crappy circuit/switchboard system
